Questions on Algorithm Mining

Hello,
I remember reading in another post that your payouts fluctuate daily based on usage within the coin that you are helping mine. High usage in that coin = better payouts from my understanding. Over the last few days ETHASH mining for me has plummeted. Before the plummet I was making high 6 dollars to 10 dollars a day and now I am lucky to make 4 dollars. Nothing in my hashrate or rig has changed.
So should I look into mining with a different miner and algorithm if ETHASH has really become so much less profitable or just wait it out? I'm not very familiar with how this fluctuation in daily earnings go as I've only been mining a day or two over a week. Thanks for any advice you can give!

Keep in mind that we aren't certain that payouts are reduced by this problem, though. The price of Ethereum declined by almost 20% alone, and the hashrate of the network is up by 5%, so significant reductions in profitability are to be expected.

Was anything figured out about a potential issue? I ask because today my mining cash number is looking great while Ethereum is still plummeting.
