Yearly database upgrade scheduled for November 27

We have scheduled the yearly database downtime for Wednesday, November 27. As we have done on Thanksgiving week in previous years, we will again upgrade Postgresql, this time to version 12.
At the same time as the upgrade, we will enable TRIM support on the disks on which Postgres is installed. This feature is necessary to keep the disks operating at a reasonable speed and needs to be done before the next bubble starts. You might recall that we performed these upgrades on the coin daemon servers in early September. The Postgres database has about 4TB of rows in it. Because the disks need to be reformatted, the operation will require copying several terabytes of data to hard drives and then copying it back, so several hours of downtime is expected.
We'll keep everyone updated as the upgrade date approaches.
