Challenge with using SFLminer

Hi I am running a couple of Silver Fish miners through your pool and for some reason I keep getting timed out from mining here with them :( They continue to try and reconnect, about every 3 to 4 minutes, but keep getting timed out according to the SFLMiner R2.1 (English)version software.
[7-12 03:38:36]MeProTimeout...Retry...
[7-12 03:41:57]MeProTimeout...Retry...
[7-12 03:45:18]MeProTimeout...Retry...
I have seen the above lines returned 83 times in the last 4.5 hours

I have tried to restart the software and the miners several times but that does not seem to improve the situation.

It is very frustrating considering that my Zeus and Gridseed systems stay locked in and run at a very steady rate, compared to other pools that I have used.

Thanks in advance for anything that can help with this situation

Hi,

Are you actually getting any shares submitted with these miners, or are they completely refusing to connect?

Hi Chris

It is completely refusing to connect back to your pools anymore. I tried taking out all other pools but for over 1 hour it just went through the same process every 3 or 4 minutes. With my fail-over pool it connects almost instantly and the software starts to report shares being accepted.

I honestly never heard of the SilverFish miners before you made this post. I'm guessing that based on your not being able to connect, that SFLminer doesn't respond well to our work restart testing. We've had similar issues with BFGminer. Try adding r=0.2 to the password field (in addition to whatever other parameters you are using) to skip the work restart phase and use a 200ms restart time, which is a good starting point. You shouldn't ever have to wait more than a minute or two for the miner to start, so if it doesn't connect after that time just come back and report your results.

Hi Chris
Thanks for this tuning tip, it was just what the miner needed to get back on the job :)

Another trick that you can add to your knowledge base

I'm glad to hear that works. Try adjusting the restart interval to a higher or lower value to improve your earnings. I have no experience with the SilverFish miners, so I don't know how quickly they handle work restarts. With a shorter work restart time, your hashrate will decline but you will also have a lower work restart penalty so you will earn more money per hash. In contrast, with a higher work restart time you will spend less time idle switching coins and have a higher hashrate, but you will have a higher work restart penalty so you will earn less money per hash. There will be an optimal restart time that will maximize your earnings, and it's specific to each model of miner; you just need to experiment.

FWIW - the Silverfish rigs were the first to tout their power efficiency (long before any other rig was considered "power efficient").
