Here's today's brief status, since I don't want to waste too much of a weekend day:
- I'm spending some of today fixing various minor mining server issues that have affected very few people and have caused very few lost shares. The main reason for spending time on these is that there is the very small chance that they are hiding major issues. There may be a brief restart later today to get the fixed code out.
- Chris has moved 100 daemons to the new servers with SSDs and is surprised by their performance. There are 30 daemons remaining, 20 of which are Comkort-only coins. Chris will begin the discontinuation and final payouts of those coins earlier than expected because their markets have dried up even before Comkort closed. That will free up more capacity without his having to recompile the daemons on the new servers.
- I discovered a few cases where the mining server would block when it was waiting for the database. My goal today is to make the mining server completely independent from the database so that, in the case disks are overloaded it can store shares in memory and deal with computing their values later. The only impact in the case of a long-running query would be that new miners who have never mined with the pool before would be blocked from connecting until the query finished, since their data needs to be retrieved from disk.
