Here's today's status:
  • Chris has been at the remote site for the last 24h working on the original server. The cause of the problem is that, in order to expand to additional algorithms and the new block explorer, he needed to buy and install two new servers so that there are a total of three. The other two servers were built and installed successfully. The final step was for Chris to install a new Gigabit network card into the old server so that the new servers could communicate with it internally. To do that, needed to upgrade the BIOS of the server. When he did that, the RAID card failed to recognize the boot partition.
  • The major delay in this process is that Chris needs to back up the huge amount of data on the server before he reinstalls this hypervisor, in case he makes a mistake. While there is little risk of data loss, restoring the continual backup that occurs every 5 min is meant as an emergency measure only and would require many days. It took most of yesterday to complete the backup, and Chris hopes to have the sever online today. Once he does, he will troubleshoot the connectivity issue that some users were encountering, install the proxy server that was promised to rootdude (and anyone else who wants to use it), and return home.
  • I have four days off beginning Thursday, so I expect to make significant progress on development this weekend. While Chris is restoring the original server and getting the two new servers configured, I'll be putting the finishing touches on the block explorer and laying the groundwork for x11 support.
  • We apologize for the delay in payouts for users who are depending on us. I will discuss with Chris what can be done to make things right for users who were inconvenienced by this problem.
  • Chris thinks that he finally fixed that issue where there would be a disconnection every 10 minutes or so for some users. When the server comes back online, that issue should no longer occur.
