Meltdown and Spectre bugs

Post by AlexCanada95 » Thu Mar 01, 2018 8:39 pm

Hi to all,
I have read about the Meltdown and Spectre security bug a couple of weeks ago, and I have discovered that these bugs (Especially the Spectre one) affect almost all the CPUs in the world, including most server CPUs. I would like to know if Prohashing will take or has already taken the appropriate measures to update the server's securities to stop these 2 bugs, in order to keep all the types of data safe, including all the user's information.

I look forward for a prompt reply

Thank you
Alex

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3111 january 12th they said they would patch it on january 14th
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3133 january 15th they said it was successfully patched
they only mention meltdown and not spectre, but i'm guessing they are similar and both patched at the same time

I read that for fixing the Meltdown bug is enough to update the operating system to the latest version, but to fix the Spectre bug is required a Motherboard BIOS update that has the fix implemented. From what I've understood, between the two the Spectre one is the most dangerous because some motherboard manufactures already stated that they will not provide BIOS updates for some of the older platforms, both for AMD and Intel CPUs. So in some cases you are forced to change your MB and CPU if you wanna keep all your data safe from the Spectre.

Unfortunately, we do not anticipate ever being able to patch the systems for the Spectre vulnerability because of the age of the servers we use for hosting coins.

We'll install all software patches as they become available, but Spectre is a fundamental flaw in the way computer architecture is designed. Our servers will probably not get a BIOS patch, and even if they do, there is one part of that bug that is not able to be patched in current chips. The only solution to that issue is to make frequent backups and ensure that as little money as possible is in our wallets at all times.
