How does it work? I see variance in the daily power usage as reported on my stats page, but the price per kw/h I specified is steady, and my miners are not powered down or pointed at any other pools at all unless something's gone wrong, so where does the fluctuation come from? Not a problem, per se, I'm just curious.

Steve knows more about this calculation than I do, so hopefully he can confirm what is happening, but I think I know the cause.
The electricity calculation counts the time between share submissions and multiplies it by the electricity rate. It times out after 480 seconds of no share submission or when we need to restart our mining server. If either situation occurs, then the electricity cost for the time between those two shares will be zero, even if your miners were still powered on and idle. This allows us to get accurate electricity costs for people who aren't mining with us 24/7, but if you are mining 24/7 then there will be some slight fluctuation in the costs due to disconnections and the occasional server restart.

If your miners disconnect, the numbers should be accurate, because miners don't use as much electricity when they are just on but not mining. That could explain some of the difference.

That makes sense, thanks. It's awesome that your stats page is smart enough to achieve that degree of accuracy. Obvious in hindsight, but still pretty cool!
