Release progress

Post by Steve Sokolowski » Sun Aug 06, 2017 6:03 pm

We were successfully able to issue the release today. The system appears to be performing normally, with a few issues that need to be fixed over the next day or two.
  • We are running the system now for an hour of test data, after which Chris will restart to fix the static difficulty bug we fixed last week but forgot to port to this new code.
  • 10m after the restart, when the system gets pricing data and settles down, Chris will add a second parallel share inserter.
  • Once he verifies that the parallel share inserter is working properly, Chris will begin to relax the difficulty constraints that we had enforced since the capacity limits were last hit, and he will update everyone on his progress.
  • We discovered an unrelated WAMP issue where we were publishing 3,000 identical hashrate update messages at times. We fixed the issue and it made WAMP much more responsive.

Sounds mainly positive. Good job. It will be interesting to see the development over the next couple of days.

Chris successfully completed the restart. We discovered one last issue, where the timestamps of the servers were mismatching, causing shares to be lost. We needed to refer to shares by the mining server time, not by the time of the share inserter system. Since only about 10,000 shares were lost for the whole day due to that problem, the impact is near zero.

Coin assignment is now the limitation for the system. The next goal is to parallelize that with a target release date of Sept 17.

Thanks for your patience!

Glad I caught your update before heading off to sleep, cheers Steve - sounds to be about as good as we could have hoped for :)

Is live balances affected by any of this? It was working for a bit, but now does not give any time and is not updating.

I'll have Chris look into that one as soon as possible, although he fell asleep because he's been up for so long.
