Ethereum/mist Wallet and Hard Fork on the 20th

Post by CritterDog » Tue Jul 19, 2016 4:33 pm

I would like to buy and mine some Ether but am a bit concerned because of the hard fork coming tomorrow. I am currently downloading the latest mist wallet which is now syncing.. It asked me which fork I wanted the wallet to be on. I selected the new fork. I am not that technical and I want to be sure I don't lose any ether.. Is it safe to go ahead and use this new wallet now? Should I wait until after the fork?

The Ethereum fork is locked in with 97% support from the miners; the only problems would be if the exchange didn't update its client. I have no concern that there will be dispute on which is the correct chain; the main headache will be dealing with businesses that forgot to update their clients and inadvertently send money on the old chain (and then have to resend on the correct chain).

The only business I know of that you may have a problem with is Cryptopia, which is taking a position against the fork and is therefore choosing to drop Ethereum altogether instead of adopting the new chain.
