3090 only running at ~900MHz (50C), when it can do 1860MHz.

Hello,

I got a 3090 recently, and I cannot determine why it is only showing as running at ~900MHz most of the time, even though the temps are very low, at ~50 C. I am using GMiner 2.54 with the following commands:

miner.exe --algo ethash --server prohashing.com:3339 --user my_username --pass a=ethash,l=24,n=name

Is this normal, and it will run at full speed as necessary based on what prohashing throws at it, or do I need to overclock it to constantly run at max speed?

Thanks for your time and help!

What is your hash rate, that is what really matters.

Thank you for the reply! My hash rate is averaging at ~100 MHz.

Do you mean 100 Megahashes? IIRC that is round about what you should be getting with that card. What to mine has it at 114. But silicon lottery and all that.

Oops, you can tell I'm new at this, lol. That is correct, sir, about 100 MH/s.

Doesn't the low temperature of 50 C suggest that I am not pushing it to the core though? Are you using MSI Afterburner or anything like that to make sure it always stays at maximum clock speed?

I'm not ever going to tell you to overclock anything. As I will not be responsible of you destroy a very expensive and very difficult to find video card. Believe me, I've been waiting 7 months trying to get a 3080.

That temp only tells you what the temp is. I can tell you that on my 1080 I go between 50-60 The 2080Ti sticks around 55-65.

BE VERY mindful if you are keeping your RAM CHIPS cool! many 3080 and 3090 cards have either insufficient or no cooling on them, and this can/will kill them if you are mining ETH or other Memclock sensitive coins... if you are interested in overclocking you may wish to reduce your CORE and increase your MEM clock... then play with your power limit (dial it down typically)
