Recently, some customers have reported that they have been disconnected from mining, or have been unable to earn, coins that are hosted on a specific virtual machine. The coins are going into error because their daemons are crashing. The daemons are crashing because their blockchains are becoming corrupted. The blockchains are becoming corrupted because a $5 adapter connecting a disk to the motherboard is failing. Only coins that are hosted on that one virtual machine are affected.
Chris ordered a new adapter, but USPS packages have been arriving late - one recent letter arrived 7 days later instead of the usual overnight delivery. With holidays and weekends adding additional delays, we don't have an estimate as to when the adapter will arrive. As soon as it is on hand, Chris will be able to fix the problem in 30 minutes. We're hoping to have this issue resolved before January 1.
Thanks for your patience!

Re: Failing disk adapter causing coin errors
Note: ZEC (mining-only) is the main coin affected by this disk issue.

Re: Failing disk adapter causing coin errors
We moved Zcash's mining client to a new disk to get Zcash mining back online soon. Currently it is reindexing.

Re: Failing disk adapter causing coin errors
This issue has been resolved. The replacement adapter arrived more quickly than anticipated. Chris replaced it overnight.

Re: Failing disk adapter causing coin errors
It turns out that the adapter was not the problem. The disk continued to have errors after the adapter was replaced.
Chris ordered a new disk, which should arrive within the week. Until then, we expect continued issues with equihash and ETH mining. We're hoping that the new disk will resolve these issues; if not, then we will have to order a new server and wait for that to arrive too.
