help getting started

Heylo.

I'm new to ProHashing, but been mining for about a year now. I'm trying to get my scrypt miners on this pool, but I get no accepted shares. They will connect to the server and they show up as workers, but no shares are being submitted. It shows that it needs more shares and is in testing, but nothing changes otherwise. I'd read through the FAQ and didn't see anything to help me, although this pool seems unique compared to others so I'm sure I'm missing something small. Thanks in advance!

Hey Todd,

Have you waited about 10 minutes? To reduce database load, the statistics on the earnings page are delayed up to 10 minutes, so it might look like your hashrate is zero at first.

If that hasn't resolved the problem, I'll look into it and see what I can find, and then will get back to you soon.

Hey Steve,

Yes it's been over 16 hours that they've sat on prohashing.

EDIT: I should add that I'm using a zoomhash image for some G-blacks. I'm pretty sure it uses a version of cgminer, but I can't recall. setup as follows:

Pool Url: prohashing.com:3333
Username.Worker: Toddimus
Password: n=GS

Second EDIT: I did some research and found that it's using "BFGMiner 4.3.1 Custom (Darkwinde Fork)" and I think that's the issue. I searched through the forums and found this post: http://forums.prohashing.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=158

Well as far as I can tell mining rig rentals actually have a variety of individuals running a variety of hardware and software and then renting out their hardware. Unless dysan can give more info about the particular persons rig he is using I'm not sure how much help we can offer. Just for reference, the offending fork was Darkwinde's (https://github.com/Darkwinde?tab=activity) bfg fork for zeus. When the user updated to the latest cgminer release from zeusminer his rejects went to a normal level.

So it looks like I can't use this image that has worked so well for me because it uses BFGminer. I'll have to get in there and see if I can't compile a different BFGminer unless you have another suggestion.

Maybe it's using a version of CPUminer. I don't know enough about the image. I know that CPUminer w/ gridseed autotuning function from sandor111 wouldn't work on prohashing either.

Hey Todd,

What hashrate are you expecting? If it's CPUMiner, then your hashrate is probably low, right?

The default difficulty of shares, 2048, is optimized for ASICs. At that rate, it will be a long time before you find a share, so your hashrate will be listed as zero. However, you are still making the same amount of money as anyone else is; it will just be a long time between shares.

After three minutes, the system will see that you have no shares and will adjust the difficulty downward to 1024. Then, after three more minutes, it will go down more, and so on. Therefore, it could be a while before a share is submitted and your low hashrate is displayed accurately. However, you are still making the same amount of money the entire time. You'll just alternate between really high hashrates and zero hashrate until enough time has passed.

Let me know if that makes sense and if the system starts to cause your workers to lower in difficulty over time. You should see the difficulty fall as time goes on. The pool isn't really optimized for CPU miners because they are somewhat unprofitable, but it should still work if you want to experiment.

The version of CPUminer I was using was designed for the gridseeds. I have 3 scrypt miners, two of them are the 25MH gridseed blacks, and the third is a bunch of gridseeds hooked into a PC w/ a total hashrate of about 14MH. I saw no difficulty adjustments while my miners were connected.

Also, I tried connecting the 14Mh gridseeds with a difficulty set to 1024 (I wasn't sure what difficulty would be good, i just guessed). I saw no accepted shares.
