L3+ Experimentation and Struggles

Post by L3AntyL3 » Thu Oct 12, 2017 5:27 am

Hi all, first post. Thank you for reading. Have 2 miners currently running on the prohashing auto switching algorithm using just the arguments

d=131702 n=Anty1
d=131702 n=Anty2

Been going beautifully up until now,(about $38 in 24h for both combined) and since then we have tried to do some tests to see how things work as this is our first miners that are actually capable of achieving something and perhaps pushing it a little more to about $40. So far though we have encountered alot of issues and i was hoping if i can compile all my questions into one post, then it might be less annoying for people to answer heh.

First up - Tried to force mining a single type of coin rather than the auto algorithm, but only had luck doing that with certain coins so far using the c= argument. Ex. c=litecoin or c=linxcoin worked, but c=topcoin / c=eintsteinium / c=advancedinternetblocks left the miner DEAD. Also took a while to figure out that sometimes the arguments need to be in " " but at other times it does not, just weird. Now ive read some posts that actually educated me a bit into the fact that there is a max hashrate for some coins and thats why it might not connect, but then if you solo mine it it shouldnt be an issue. Which leads me to my next question.

Secondly - So, as a fun batch of tests we decided to solo mine for 24h to see if we can get it right and perhaps have that experience under our belts. Went ahead and chose a nice low coin, with a low hashrate, about 100Gh/s, meaning our two miners should make up about 1% of the hashrate, and we thought hey, the blocks should be pouring in right? Wrong. 8hrs later and it had only mined $0.02 worth, with zero blocks. Adding insult to injury it rewarded the earnings of the 'solo' mine in the coin itself, whereas i thought it would still pay it out in BTC, since it is the only payout and wallet i have set up. Is this normal? I thought something was off the minute we turned on solo and i started seeing the coin being rewarded in the live balances - i was under the impression that solo mining does not rewards any shares, only blocks minus fees, which makes me think we did something wrong. The cherry on top, of course, was that it seemed it had actually done 'solo' mining by mining a bunch of other coins and then paying out in the coin we had selected, rather than just soloing that one coin, i dunno, i hope im wrong and someone can shed some light on this please. The arguments we used for that was c=linxcoin m=solo, and it actually reported solo mode and all the goodies.

Id appreciate any help or explanation as to some of the things we have encountered, as we would love to learn to become more seasoned miners.

Thank you again for reading this

If you're making about 38-40$ with the auto algorithm, then keep it at that. I'd even say take away the d= to see if it affects your payout at all.

To your first thing, this has been stated multiple times through the forum, a simple search could have gotten you the answer. But essentially, not all coins are solo mine-able.

And for the 2nd thing, i'd have to go back to the first line i stated: don't do it, 38-40$ without a massive OC on L3+ is all you're going to make on those hardwares. Count your blessings and leave it as is.

Thank you for your input. Much appreciated. The result for the long term will most likely be, as you stated, the auto and leave it. I simply made the post in an attempt to further my knowledge about the capabilities and the methods of doing things. Would you perhaps know of a listing of non solo-able coins for PH somewhere?
