New miner

Hello forum,

I am a newly registered member, my L3+ is coming in the mail in 1-2 days and have decided to use ProHashing to mine Alt-coins in return for LTC. I have read that I must put in the login info from ProHash once I log into the antminer then I am lost on what to do next after obviously having it connected and running with the PSU.

Thanks for the help, hope to have all the steps ready before the rig gets here.

Go to the miner configuration page on your L3+, then general settings.
For URL. stratum+tcp://prohashing.com:3333
Worker. Your Prohash registration name(exact same caps)
Password. n=name your mining machine anything you want, try to create something unique to avoid possible conflicts with other miners. You can also include a difficulty setting such as d=131702. This number should be a factor of 2. i.e. 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384, 32768, 65536, 131702. Anything below 8192 will result in Prohashing controlling your difficulty setting. Many users report that the optimal setting is d=131702

e.g. n=cryptofarmer.1 d=131702

Make sure you have backup pools setup for downtime from Prohashing such as Litecoinpool.org, nicehash, mining-dutch, hash-to-coins. There are many others.

That's basically it. You have to enter your miner's IP address to your browser to access the config. Then under "Miner configuration" enter stratum+tcp://prohashing.com:3333 for URL (this will point your miner to the pool), "worker" is your Prohashing username (case sensitive!!!). password can be anything but if you want to name your miners "n=name", also some people play around with password arguments for manually changing the difficulty (d=...), or mining specific coins solo but I've been using the default setting which is dynamic and seems to work as well as any other custom settings others have used in terms of daily payout.

Make sure to set a backup pool (I use litecoinpool.org) in case PH goes down.

Once you've added your wallet address and payment proportions you're all set. Bear in mind payments happen once every 24 hours and sometimes take a good few hours after it comes up as "earned"

So I also have another stupid question but hopefully not so stupid since asked,

I am waiting for my Bitmain Antminer APW3 1600w PSU to come in the mail and I've been watching videos of different configuration/opening of the L3 and see different power cables for the PSU. Can anyone please just let me know which one it is so I dont mess up such a simple thing! I have the Ethernet cord !

I also am planning to use my APC 1500VA Compact UPS Battery backup and surge protector so hope the power cable fits into that!

If you are in USA - regular desktop computer cable will be good enough.

PS. Do NOT plug/use your 1500VA UPS for the miner(s) ...No need at all - and you can burn it with mining through it. Trust me - I'm computer engineer, Master Degree, 30+ years in that business.

Ah i thought it would be the perfect match, the I bought the UPS that has 900w figuring it would be perfect for the L3 that is 800w, just in case for any power outage usually the ones that comes back on after a second. I hoped that would of eliminated the risk of a 1-2 second power outage and save the rig.

The Bitmain power supplies don't state that they have any sort of power factor correction, but if they do have active power factor correction and just don't list it, then using a UPS with it could cause problems. The reason why is because when on battery power, they don't put out a sine wave, they put out a square wave. The active power factor correction circuit can't handle that properly. If I were going to use a UPS, I would probably get the CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD because it puts out a sine wave and is line interactive, which should provide better protection against small power fluctuations. Any UPS in this price range isn't going to provide power for any significant time when you are drawing 800w though. I personally would just get a surge protector and save the money unless your power quality is really bad.

HMMMM I am using a 3000 watt UPS I bought for 50 bucks without batteries on EBAY pay $65.00 usd for the batteries and it works great running l3+ and one S9 "one board only" and my wall service is 120 VAC 50amp. if I had 220v Iand 100 amp service I am sure and can run both with all boards.

here is a pic...... of the GUI. I can even shut them off or turn them on as well from the UPS but you already know that. This UPS save my but so many times. Granted it is loaded down quite a bit but it works.

So the consensus is not use the 1500VA 900W for the 800W ASIC L3+? My electricity isnt so bad but just bought it and it came already in the mail, if its useful ill keep it just as a plan b,c,d,e,f,g hehe, but if its literally going to do nothing to protect a probable 1-2 second power outage ill see how I can go upon sending it back..
